Kingston College

Kingston College is an all-boy secondary school located in Kingston, Jamaica. The institution began at 114 ¾ East Street and was declared open on April 16, 1925, with 49 students.

There are currently two campuses – the Melbourne Park campus on Upper Elletson Road which houses 1st, 2nd and 3rd Forms, and the main campus situated at 2A North Street (also called Clovelly Park) which accommodates 4th, 5th, and 6th Forms.

As at October 31, 2023, 1,851 students are enrolled. The institution’s track record in academics and extra-curricular activities is second to none and is considered by many as the most rounded high school in Jamaica.

KC was envisioned as a remedy for the social deformity in which poor black boys were allowed primary education only. It was primarily established to provide poor black boys, who otherwise would not have the opportunity, with a secondary education. The founder was convinced that there was a treasury of untapped talent among the black working and lower middle classes. KC would nurture that talent, and so take to another level, the uncompleted process of full Emancipation that begun in 1838.

Simply put, KC transforms average boys into great men who positively impact the society.

The school’s colour, purple was chosen because it is the colour worn by Christian Bishops. The colour is also used by the Greeks to honour their Olympic champions and the colour of the leading Empire in History – Rome.

The school’s motto is Fortis Cadere Cedere Non Potest (Latin), which translates to The Brave May Fall But Never Yield.
